EMDR
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a psychotherapy that is effective for treating trauma and PTSD. EMDR processes memories that are causing intense suffering. EMDR helps by processing traumatic memories using bilateral stimulation, like eye movements, reducing the emotional intensity associated with those memories and facilitating healing.
Brainspotting
Brainspotting (BSP) is a psychotherapy that developed from EMDR. It is used to process traumatic memories, distressful events and enhance one’s quality of life. BSP uses a person’s visual field “brain spots” to help process the distress.
Flash Technique
The flash technique (FT) was originally developed to assist in the perpetration phase of EMDR. FT has developed into a treatment of its own or it can be combined with other modalities. FT is used to reduce the intensity of a disturbing memory by processing the memory outside of one’s awareness while engaging in a positive engaging activity.
Traditional Talk Therapy
Traditional talk therapy involves verbalizing one’s experiences and learning new coping skills. In traditional talk therapy, one can explore one’s thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. One can learn how maladaptive thoughts influence our choices and learn to choose differently.
